2 Year Anniversary

Sep 30, 2011
Next week, I completed 2 years of leaving my amazing job at YouTube to enter the world of startups.

Looking back, there is a ton of things that happened in these 2 years, including starting 2 companies, having a baby, traveling, fundraising, investing, advising, volunteering, etc.

There is a lot that I have learned from this rollercoaster ride, and its now time to reflect on some of the key things

Dont’s

  • Do not leave a good job unless you know what you are going to do
  • Do not start a company without doing enough research
  • Do not think that you can go alone in building a company
Dos
  • Do make sure that you have enough savings to last a while
  • Do find co-founders or have a founding team that you have a good working chemistry with
  • Do have family time, startup is a marathon not a sprint
Thanks to my wife for understanding and keeping sanity in some of the insane times.
